What NOT To Do

By Philip Edwards

There are a million helpful ideas to help you burn fat, but there are just as many do not’s as well.

When we talk about diet, it’s best to start with the best foods NOT to eat. These can be found in our – Top Ten Worst Foods.

But there is still a lot of grey area and even if you eat the right foods you won’t look like an underwear model anytime soon. In fact, even if you do all the right things, you may not get the results you want. Why? Read on to find out.

Do NOT Form the Wrong Perceptions

It’s important to note that everyone’s different. This means some people look good without having to do anything special at all. They are thin and muscular and seem to be able to eat whatever they want. I’ll bet your not one of these people – or at least you feel that way – or you wouldn’t be reading this.

So shaping your perceptions about who you really are, into something you’re really not is something you definitely want to avoid. Don’t think you can be Lance Armstrong or Arnold Schwarzenegger – these are nature’s gifted that just happened to be discovered. The rest of us are merely normal people with normal bodies.

You can’t become these rare individuals with ANY amount of hard work – so take it easy and calm down. Don’t be unrealistic about your body shaping and fat burning goals.

Do NOT Think a Little Won’t Make a Difference

Are you a winner or a big fat loser? That’s what many would have you believe – it’s one or the other. If you can’t get it ALL and it can’t be done TODAY, then you might as well forget it. That’s what many of us believe – no middle of the road.

The truth is every tiny bit of exercise you do and every tiny bit of fattening food you avoid will help – no question. So making a half step is making progress. If you are overweight and out of shape, you didn’t get there yesterday and you won’t have a perfect body tomorrow, but recognizing the doughnut you skip today and the walk you take this afternoon is the key to being healthier and happier NOW.

Do NOT Start Tomorrow

How many people have said to you, “Hey, I’ll get it done tomorrow,” and it just never seems to happen. When it comes to your health – the most important factor to keep enjoying that lovely thing called life, when should you start? Tomorrow, next week – for sure, or maybe next year when I have more time….

Don’t do it, player. You are only fooling yourself and making your road to a new slimmer you just that much further down the road.

Do NOT Listen To Others About Your Program

Everywhere you go, people will tell you: “You need this or you’ll NEVER make any progress.”

Baloney! You need to have a program that fits your particular needs and works for you. What works for somebody else may have little or no effect – it could even hurt you.

You need to get educated and start putting together a program based on as much good information as possible that fits your fitness and fat burning goals. Listening is OK as far as that goes, but it needs to fit you, not them.

Do NOT Use Just One Method

Just dieting or just exercising is bound to fail in the long run. Why? Because without exercise, you need to cut unhealthy amounts of calories from your diet to lose fat. You can lose fat, but you also lose muscle and general physical fitness.

In fact, if you had to do one thing, exercise would be the better of the two. Studies have shown that overweight persons who exercised regularly were in better health than those at a normal weight. Better fat and fit than skinny and lazy, it turns out.

But exercise alone will not help you lose weight – even if you run long distances it will take months if not years to get down to a normal body fat percentage. And slack off for just a few months more and it will all come back without maintaining a healthy diet.

You need three things to burn fat:

  • Information

  • Diet

  • Exercise

Missing just one of these will cause you to work or suffer for few gains in the fat burning department.

Do NOT Think a Magic Bullet Will Make Fat Disappear

If you are a regular reader here, you know we continuously debunk diet pills, diet drinks, fad diets, Hollywood diets and the rest of that junk that’s designed to drain your wallet and make you feel like an idiot for purchasing it in the first place.

Short of having your fat surgically removed, it takes time, work and dedication to burn fat off your body in a lasting and healthy manner. So unless your one of those sick persons who believe a gastric bypass or liposuction will somehow make you “healthier”, forget it and get to work today.

Remember: People routinely DIE from these surgical procedures.

Do NOT Kill Yourself Exercising

When it comes to fitness, more is not necessarily better. Three to four times per week at 60 to 90 minutes including your cardio is fine. Professional athletes train harder, but your goal is to avoid injury first and burn fat second.

Injuries will set you back far in excess of what lifting that extra tens pounds or burning that extra 10 calories will to for you in terms of benefits.

Feel Better On Your Way to Looking Better

One of the best strategies is to forget about looks and go for general health and well being – before you know it, people will begin to comment on how good you look and how much more cheerful you are. Being healthy and fit is more than just looking better – it’s feeling better.
