The Shocking Truth About The Vitamin Supplements You're Taking!
Cliff Baker
You're doing everything right in your quest for good health. You're eating healthy . . . you're exercising . . . and for added insurance you're taking vitamin and mineral supplements. But take a double look at your vitamin label . . . you just may doing your body more harm than good!
What if I told you that the very vitamin supplements you're taking to build up and maintain your health may actually be dragging it down?
It's true! If you're taking a vitamin supplement that contains synthetic vitamins, you may be giving your body substances that are impossible for it to use alone. You're sending your body on a biochemical scavenger hunt to discover other "pieces parts" to make your supplement whole and worthwhile to your system.
And here's why, according to Joseph Strickland, applied clinical nutritionist. Synthetic vitamins are exactly as the name implies: vitamins that are man-made. And they're made using just a portion of the original vitamin.
What do I mean by this? In a nutshell, a synthetic vitamin is composed of just one of the many compounds found in the original full vitamin. Let's look at vitamin C, for example. Check out the label on your vitamin bottle. Does it just identify ascorbic acid? If that's the case, you're taking a synthetic vitamin C. And your body doesn't have any use for ascorbic acid on its own.
So it has to search out the other components from its system to make this vitamin whole and in such a condition that it's actually beneficial to your body. What if your body doesn't have an adequate reserve of all of the other compounds that go into making this a complete and useful vitamin? Then it isn't helping your health one iota. And that's the shocking truth!
So what's the alternative?
Well, there are several, actually. A step up from the synthetic vitamin supplement is the natural vitamin. With this version, the ingredients that go into making this supplement actually come from food. For our vitamin C example, the label wouldn't say ascorbic acid, but mushroom, or citrus or even acerola berries. Any of these three indicates your body is receiving a natural vitamin, already complete when it reaches your system.(By the way, if you're curious, the mushroom is actually the best whole natural food source of vitamin C.)
No scavenging for stray parts on the part of your body. No worries about not having an adequate supply right there at your disposal!
So you might not think it can get any better than this, but Strickland ensures us that it can. He says a step up from the natural vitamins are something called whole-food vitamins.
Whole-food vitamins are made by using a very potent combination of superfoods, each of which carries itself a very high concentration of the vitamin you're looking for. This combination is then put into a tablet or a pill.
The good news is simply this: all the nutrition that you find in nature is found in that whole-food vitamin you hold in your hand. And your body recognizes it as food and uses it. These are the vitamins your body actually digests.
Whole food vitamins can be found in any health food store or vitamin shop. If you have difficulty finding it on your retailers' shelves, you can find excellent suppliers on the internet!
And just when you think it can't get any better . . .
Feeling pretty good now, aren't you? Got your vitamin situation sorted out. And you're thinking you just can't do any better than this. I hate to be the one to break the news to you, but . . . . really can go at least one step better than natural whole food vitamins.
Tell me! Tell me! You exclaim. Try foods! Yes, it sounds silly. But it's the truth. Whenever you have a chance to choose between vitamins -- even a whole food vitamin and food itself -- choose food. It's still, without a shadow of a doubt, the best thing for your body.
Oops, well, it's the next best thing for your body! After all the best fundamentals of food are of course, fruits and veggies. And these are classified as whole foods. When you choose among food, don't choose man-made packaged or processed foods unless you absolutely have no choice. Eat these "synthetic foods" sparingly if at all.
Grab the whole foods, the fruits and vegetables. These are your absolutely your best sources of vitamins and minerals -- along with good, healthy sources of protein.
Wait! Where are you going? Ahh! You're off to throw your synthetic vitamins out, buy some whole food vitamins and go shopping for some fresh fruits and vegetables. Now, we're talking healthy!
