A Vision Board - Perhaps The Most Important Fat-Burning Secret Of All Time . . .A Vision Board is one simple step -- a step we seem to intuitively know when we're children and which could very well be the most important step you take in dumping the fat, feeding the muscle and discovering that there was a healthy, happy and vibrant YOU underneath it all the entire time. You'll be surprised at the tools you need to achieve your ultimate goal. When I was younger and trying to lose weight and burn the fat, I cut out a photo of a slim gorgeous woman from a magazine. Yep, I wanted to look like that when it was all said and done. I unfortunately made the mistake of showing to someone. She laughed in my face. "No matter how much weight you lose," she told me, "you'll never look like that." I read the subtext to mean: "Why even try?" Needless to say I was more than a bit disillusioned. I went through the rest of my adolescence as well as most of my adulthood struggling with my weight. "Why try?" I frequently asked myself when yet another diet failed me, or I reached that all too expected weight-loss plateau. "Silly of me to even think about losing weight." So imagine my surprise some six or seven years ago when someone told me -- as I was working on a project with him -- that he had once been heavy. And that he used a vision board to help him lose the weight. "Indeed," I said, "tell me more!" A vision board is simply as I've implied. It's a board -- a bulletin board, a wall dedicated to photos, pictures and inspiring quotes, or simply a poster board with a collage of photos and words (the type that high school girls simply love to construct!). Below, thanks to writer Tristan Loo, explaining the concept in a Tom Venuto newsletter are the general elements of a well thought out vision board. Vision boards have become immensely popular within recent years, thanks to "success expert" John Assaraf success story of this tool in the DVD documentary "The Secret." First, your vision board has to be . . . well, visual. Seems logical, but it needs to be emphasized. Just as I instinctively knew when I was younger that I needed a photo to keep me motivated (and I properly didn't even care that I wouldn't look quite like that when I had finally reached my goal!), you need to find visual representations of what you'd like to look like when you reach your ultimate goal. And while you're at it, why even limit your vision board to just your weight-loss and fat-burning goals? Certainly you have other goals in your life. A new house? Perhaps an old Victorian house? A new job? A new car? Include some photos of these items. These photos needn't be the exact representation of these -- but something similar that represents the goal. Of course the closer you can get to the exact look and exact feel (and this is the important part!) of the goal, you're right on track. Each of these photos should also provide you with some emotional positive response. Just looking at this vision board should make you happy! It should fuel your passion to achieve your goals. It should tell you -- no, it should shout at you! -- in no uncertain terms that all of this -- and more -- is within your reach. Give lots of thought to where exactly you're going to place your vision board. First and foremost, you need to have maximum exposure to it. Is it going to be the last thing you see at night and the first thing in the morning? Is it going to sitting in your study so you can look at it throughout the day to keep your mind focused? But, remember, the vision board is a very personal item. I learned this by experience a long time ago. I didn't have a name for the photo that I cut out of that magazine. But I had a goal. And when I showed my humble attempt at a "vision board" to a friend, I got barraged with negative emotion and energy that totally ambushed all my plans (even though, I'm sure, my friend meant well!). Now that you have a visual representation of your fat-burning, weight-loss goals -- go to it! Transform yourself. |
