The Top Ten Bad Foods

By Cliff Baker

When choosing what to eat for your personalized fat burning program, knowing what NOT to eat can be helpful, too. Below is the Top Ten List of items to avoid. Note that all bad foods are not listed, so keep in mind the following when shopping or eating out.

Anti-Fat Burners - Avoid foods with/that are:

  • Saturated or trans fats

  • Prepared by deep frying

  • Refined sugars or high sugar content

  • Processed carbohydrates like white flour

  • Artificial flavorings, preservatives or fillers

  • Low nutritional value, i.e. empty calories

  • High levels of sodium (salt)

1. French Fries

What’s not to love? Everything! This American standard is just about the worst food you can ingest to burn the fat. Not only is it full of calories, they’re all the bad kind. A Supersize fries in McDonalds has 610 calories – that’s about a third of the total daily requirement for most of us. Add on the 29 grams of fat - 15 saturated - and you’ll end up supersizing your waistline in no time. Don’t forget those deadly trans fats; most fast food joints still use these durable frying fats to cook everything from hash browns to apple pies.

2. Premium Ice Cream

Regular supermarket ice cream is bad enough with its high sugar and fat content, not to mention artificial flavorings and food dyes, but it’s the high end ice creams like Haagen Daaz and Ben & Jerry’s that really take the cake for anti-fat burning. These guys manage to pack in – depending on the flavor - up to 660 calories and 48 grams of fat in to just one cup! Wavy Gravy, for example, has 20 grams are saturated fat making this the worst possible choice unless you want to resemble the cows from whence this product originates. Go for frozen yogurt instead – a third the calories and much less fat.

3. Candy

Candy is for kids – that must be why child obesity is a national crisis. Adults gulp down plenty as well, mostly expensive gourmet chocolates. Candy is made of refined sugar – in fact, it’s almost 90% sugar in most cases. The rest is normally some type of saturated fat or artificial flavoring. High in calories and low in nutritional value, skip the candy. Don’t let chocolates health benefits fool you, either – milk chocolate is deadly to your program to burn the fat.

4. Doughnuts

Ever wonder why cops are so fat? Wonder no more – a diet filled with doughnuts is a diet that should get you arrested. Jam packed with refined sugar and saturated fats, these items are also often deep fried which make them the worst food for your fat burner program. Don’t forget the toppings which are either candy or sugar mixed with lard – yum. There is no such thing as a “low fat” doughnut – so it’s best to permanently scratch them off your list of things to eat.

5. Bacon and Sausage

Say it ain’t so! So - so fattening you should never consider either of these grease-filled items as part of a fat burning diet. These products can be 93% fat by calories – you might as well have a nice, hot cup of grease – it would be about the same to your waist line. Even low fat versions of these products are not recommended since the difference in the percentage of calories of fat is not enough to make them into healthy foods.

6. Nachos

This party and bar favorite is one of the worst offenders to your fat burning plans. Full of saturated fats in the form of melted cheese, it also packs in the fried carbohydrates (the chips), tons of sodium and offers little food value in return. Add some refried beans made with lard and sour cream and – boom - the calorie count goes through the roof.
