Prevention v Cure

By Philip Edwards

After spending a few sweaty months at the gym and noticing that you look pretty much the same, you begin to realize it would have been a lot easier to put down that doughnut than hit the Stair Master real hard for 40 minutes – that’s about what it takes to burn off one doughnut, by the way.

With this in mind, think of all the other reasons why it might be a good idea to think about burning fat BEFORE you get Star Jones sized and need a gastric bypass to “cure” your obesity.

Although those who are obese and overweight shouldn’t give up hope, they should realize that once fat, the road to thinness is both hard and long.

It will require sacrifices that only those that have made them can truly appreciate. Even with that, at least some of the damage done by having too much fat is unlikely to go away – stretch marks, chronic illnesses like Type II diabetes, joint problems, lose skin – just to name a few.

So for those who seem to be waiting to “hit bottom” as they say, don’t do it. Start now – learn what eating healthy means, find out how many calories you should be eating every day, start exercising on a regular basis and make it a priority – or else.

Pay me now or pay me later is the standard mechanic’s refrain. But what’s true for cars is not true for the human body. Once damaged, it can heal itself, but it’s never is quite the same.

No amount of money can save you here – only time and hard work. Unlike a car that can be completely rebuilt with new parts in a few months at most, the road to slimland can take years and hundreds of hours of hard work in the gym.

Not to mention the need for drastic surgery to rid the body of extra skin associated with losing large amounts of weight which leaves unsightly scars.

Our biggest problem really is not that we don’t understand drinking a six-pack a day gets you a beer belly, but the big failure is to understand just how much hard work it takes to undo that beer belly – especially when it’s been a decade in the making.

The time to start is when you can pinch an inch. If you are able to do that, your body fat levels could use a downward push.

Let’s look at what you need to do to get a fat prevention program together today – before people start trying to push you into the water at the beach.

  • Learn the amount of calories you need daily – your Basal Metabolic Rate or BMR (click here: )

  • Learn how many calories are in the foods you eat and the type of calories they are: fats, carbs and proteins (click one of these: www.thecaloriecounter.comor , 200 Calories,)

  • Learn which types of foods help burn the fat and give you energy: Lean Dozen

  • Learn how to tailor an exercise program to your body type and goals: Like Burn the Fat

  • Make a high priority of getting and staying in good shape with a low body fat content.

  • Set fitness goals and enlist family and friends to help you reach them.

  • Make a fat burning plan and stick to it – even if the results aren’t immediately evident.

With this basic list, you can go a long way toward having a great body – it won’t be any less work, but you won’t have to spend so many months and years as a fat person. Because face it, the longer you wait, the harder it is. Better start managing your fat before it starts managing you.

Not only will you be preventing yourself from being in the big and tall section, but you can also avoid a whole host of fat related diseases like:

  • Type II diabetes

  • Cancer (almost all types of cancer are more frequent in fat persons)

  • Dementia – recent studies show fat people are more likely to become senile later in life.

  • Heart Attack

  • Stroke

And no need to mention being a social outcast and pegged as a “loser”. It’s not fair, but life rarely is.

And consider age – young people can exercise much easier than older folks and get better results. Yet they rarely do leading to the fat middle aged person who has little extra energy after a hard day at work. The earlier you start, the easier it is to keep young looking and trim.

If you make it into old age as a fat person, the job of losing that extra weight is truly daunting – it can be done, but it will mean undoing a lifetime of bad habits – why develop them in the first place? Start today and save yourself a world of grief and a shorter lifespan.

Prevention beats a cure every time – don’t wait, start today.
