The Perfect Home GymIf you want the latest tech, there are machines like the Bowflex.
Despite the lightweight construction, the power bars – which flex continually – are guaranteed for life and the other parts range for 5 to 12 years. Prices range from $899 to $2,299 for the deluxe model – they’ll even finance it. On the downside, the padding isn’t real comfortable and the machine itself feels kind of flimsy compared to regular gym equipment. The cost is also a consideration, but if you compare it to gym dues, it’s cheap in the long run.
Yeah! That’s real iron there – weights ¾ of a ton unloaded! It also costs about $5,000 – not including the weights and all the special attachments. Notice the difference in the padding – thick and resistant. The Titan allows for 60 different exercises – all without a spotter thanks to its safe lock system. Next up is the cardio equipment. Here is where you should pause and think carefully. Cardio equipment for the home is usually junk – breaks in less than a year. The reason they sell so much of it is that most people buy it to collect dust. But if you really plan on using it, be ready to plunk down some serious change to get something good. While you’re at it, look for electronics like programmable courses, timers and most important for burning the fat, calorie counters.
Good cardio machines can set you back a grand easy. And even then, they still often lack the solid feel of gym models which can cost more than $5,000. Do you need all this to burn fat? Not at all. Brisk walking, some light resistance training using calisthenics and a proper diet will work just fine – for the beginner. Things like exercise balls, elastic exercise bands, chin up bars and heavy bags are all cheap and effective ways to get into shape. But if you really want the well-defined look or want to get big, good equipment will definitely help. |
