New Year's ResolutionsAfter you’ve taken the time to fully enumerate your goals, share them with others: fitness buffs, your family, your doctor, your trainer – if you’re lucky enough to have one. Get feedback from them – they can often give you some great tips. Friends and family can really help you to achieve your goals – mostly by knowing that they will be the first ones to poke fun if you fail to accomplish what you set out to. Your family should be particularly supportive – letting them know can aid you greatly because they can be there when you get weak. Even better is convincing them to join you – they deserve to be healthy, too, don’t they now? Don’t just write down your goals and stick them in a drawer, make copies and put them in strategic locations to remind you of your priorities. The refrigerator, the bathroom mirror, the dash board of your car, the desktop of your computer - everywhere you spend time. Positive affirmations have also been known to help. Saying to yourself: “I can do it.” Avoid naysayers and negative thoughts – you’ll surely run into both, but don’t let them get in the way of becoming who you want to be. In order to really make your fitness goals work for you, it’s important to track your progress. This is sometimes tedious, but – apart from letting you know how well you are doing – it reinforces your commitment to burning fat. The time you take to note your caloric intake and exercise will also be a good time to reflect on how it became a necessity – namely eating too much and not exercising. Here’s a good example of reasonable goals that can be used as a base to make your own custom plan: Fitness Goals for 2008
Note that this is just a base list and needs further elaboration – exact times, dates, amount of weight/resistance, etc… The more detailed the better. The most important thing is to get started, so make it as soon as possible – the farther away the start time, the less likely you will be to begin at all. Don’t be like everyone else – constantly repeating the same resolution every year without doing something about it – do it now, do it today. The road may be long, but your fat burning goals won’t get any closer by postponing the journey. |
