The Good News (and Bad News) About Fat Loss and Men
Zeb Williams
Men and women are different. Because of the way they are built, they process, store
and lose fat differently. Fat deposits on men, for example, are different on women.
This explains why men store more fat on their abdominal areas while women store
them on the lower body area such as the thighs and hips. That is why the most
common complaint for men involves their 'love handles' those deposits of fat that
line their waist and belly.
The Potbelly
Ever wondered why potbellied men have tough stomachs? Try to punch a guy with a big
stomach as hard as you can and there's a high likelihood that you'll be the one to
get hurt and not him. This is because fat in this area hides deep in the
abdominals. This fat is called visceral fat and is hidden underneath abdominal
muscles.
The good thing about visceral fat is that they are relatively easy to lose through a
healthful diet and regular exercise. This means that should you gain fat in the
belly, changing your daily diet and incorporating physical activities in your
regimen can help you get rid of it quite easily.
The only danger about visceral fat is that while men's bodies can get rid of it
through metabolism, the broken down fat can enter the bloodstream and clog up
arteries. This raises the risk of developing diabetes, hypertension and
cardiovascular diseases.
Weight training
Another excellent means to lose fat is to weight train. Graduated weights help
increase the body's resistance and build strength. It helps promote better
metabolism, which means that it will be easier for your body to process and burn
fat.
There is an important thing men need to know regarding fat loss through weight
training. A few weeks or months after regular sessions, you'll probably notice that
your weight will go up. Thus, even if your diet has remained healthful and you're
physically active.
The extra weight is not actually extra fat it's the extra muscle. As your body
responds to weight or strength training, it bulks up hence, the extra weight.
There's no need to worry about this because it's the body's natural response to
stimulus. As long as the routine you're using is perfectly safe and you're gaining
muscle in places where you're losing fat, you're doing the right thing.
Fat loss and men
Although men can gain weight just as easily as women, they have a natural advantage:
men can lose it more easily than women can. That is, as long as there is increase
in physical activities. If fat stays too long in the body, there are health
consequences to be expected, some of which may be serious.
