Know Why You Want to Lose Weight.

You may think you want to lose weight to get healthy, but deep down you may really be trying to look better in your pair of jeans. So get your priorities down first. Are you losing weight because your doctor says your health depends on it . . . you want to just be healthier overall . . . or because your spouse is nagging you about it?

The bottom line is that the weight loss, the burning of fat, must be for you . . . it must be about you . . . not any other individual. If you're not ready to lose weight because of reasons close to your heart, then don't even try! You're setting yourself up for failure.

Toss The Prepared and Packaged Foods Out

Once you know you're burning fat for reasons you hold near and dear to your heart, then go all out: Make a commitment to get your hormonal balances (if you are female) back to normal. The first step to this is to toss all processed and packaged foods out. These can mess up your hormones without your even knowing about it.

More doctors than ever before are now advising their patients that this is the only way to get your body on track to accept its weight loss and fat burning potential. In fact, Dr. Mehmet Oz, who has made numerous appearances on Oprah and now has a television program of his own, makes the same recommendation.

While to many of us this may sound extreme, it is a fact, that the food additives, colorings and other "incidental" toxins found in packaged and process foods only hinder your attempts to get your body healthy. Boxed macaroni and cheese? Out! Boxed potatoes and potato flakes? Out. Packaged noodles? Out.

Bring in the healthy foods!

Yes, now that the kitchen cupboards look like poor Mother Hubbard's, it's time to stock them with fresh fruits and vegetables, whole wheat pasta and grains as well as a host of other healthy, life-giving foods.

You'll soon discover that you can eat more of these types of foods -- calorie per calorie. That means you'll be more satiated and satisfied. And less likely to even miss those sugar nuggets posing as healthy breakfast cereal!
