Fat Burning: Attitude is Everything

What you say to yourself determines how you act. Say it softer, say it smarter and listen well – if you are not saying the right things, stop yourself and ask why. “Why I’m I saying I need a Whopper? I need Whopper like a hole in the head!”

Stop being so dramatic, too. The more dramatic, the more likely you are to go overboard and eat too much.

This can be hard to do. The rationalization process often happens so fast you are completely unaware – but make no mistake: it happens for every action you take. Scarfing down that fried apple pie at Micky D’s is not an involuntary response to hunger – you CAN control it.

That’s why many people are overweight due to psychological problems – they use food to fill other needs and can’t seem to control their actions. If this sounds like you, don’t feel bad – everyone is either with you or been there. I know I have.

So now that you know the big secret, you can start to work on it. Here’s how:

  1. Monitor your thoughts and have that BS detector handy to filter out the garbage.

  2. Practice mentally saying the right things – “I’m hungry. I’m going to eat something tasty and healthy.”

  3. Mentally review your goals every hour and check - compare your activity to your goals – are you doing things that are moving you towards your goals or just screwing around?

  4. Eliminate certain negative or over expressive words from your vocabulary: Say “I can” instead of “I can’t”. “Too” as in “Too hard” and “Too hungry”

  5. Stop shoulding on yourself. Say “I will” or “I will next time” instead. Things are the way they are because they are – if you continually say they “should” be different, you are setting yourself up to fail.

In order to lower the drama and avoid setting yourself up to fail, make short term –daily or weekly – goals that you can easily reach. Saying, “I’m gonna lose 50lbs. this year” is not specific, too long term and too easy to put off till the last minute.

Better to say, “No junk food or soda today and a healthy turkey on whole -wheat sandwich before my afternoon walk.”

Make up a new goal every day and stick to it. Over time, and the more you educate yourself, the easier it will be until – one day - it’s just as much of a habit as those late night pizza binges.

Tell people about your goals and desires – get them on your side and avoid nay sayers. There are plenty of people who love to drag you down as a hobby.

Say nice things about yourself and you’ll have more reasons to make self -improvements. “I’m a good person who deserves to be healthy!” instead of “I’m a fat pig and should be on a farm with the other hogs!”

Attitude comes from training just like anything else – train yourself to think right and you’ve won most of the battle – the rest is just time and patience.
