Fat Burner Marketing Malarkey

For years, marketers have tried to get regular products to become that next diet craze. The milk corporations recently had to pull an ad that stated you could lose weight by drinking 3 glasses of milk a day – that’s just stupid and impossible, so the ad was taken of the air as being false advertising.

“Lite” foods are marked that way because they have more calories than other foods that are already low in calories – their makers would prefer you not stop eating their stuff, so they make a product with just a few calories less and market it as if it’s the cure for cancer.

Don’t forget all the “sport drinks”. Jesus, if I had a nickel for every fat person in a track suit standing around at the gym sucking down these high calorie beverages like it was life itself! Again, more marketing BS designed to make you think that by drinking a “sporty drink” you’ll be more “sporty” yourself – well, all I got to say it good luck with that one, sport, cause its not going to work. More calories – no matter how “sporty” they are – are just more calories. Might as well paint racing stripes on your doughnuts.

You need specialized sport drinks if you: run more than 5 miles in high heat, are a professional athlete or like being fat, but would prefer to look more sporty in the process. Unfortunately, the huge majority of potential customers fall into the last category – hence the heavy marketing.

Then there are the supplements and diet aids – more garbage and a waste of your hard earned dollars. None of these things has ever been proven to aid long term fat loss and many are now off the market because they can be dangerous. Give it up! These things are bunk and the claims they make should tell you that right away.

Any food can make you fat and all calories – no matter how full of omega 3 or good cholesterol they are – will add to your waist line if it’s over and above your daily caloric needs minus the amount burned by exercise. Rich in proteins, complex carbohydrates, essential oils, high in nutrients – it’s all potentially fattening if you eat more than you need.

Anything that claims to cause instant and permanent weight loss would have to work by amputating a limb or maybe sewing your mouth shut. It takes years to get overweight and can take years to get slim. So unless you want to go the Star Jones route and get a gastric bypass – maybe dying in the process – forget it.

Want to burn fat? Create a caloric deficit and keep below you daily caloric needs. You can even eat Big Macs and doughnuts and still lose weight – just remember you’ll probably be limited to one of each per day or running a half marathon to burn off the extra calories.
