Ways to Fail at Fat LossWe’ve written endlessly about how to succeed at burning fat, but there are just as many – if not more – ways to fail. NO ACTIONProbably the most common is thinking about fat burning without doing it. Thinking about something like exercise is actually good, since it means you will probably be more likely to do it, but it burns absolutely no calories. None. What burns calories and tones the body is exercise. So you can think and dream about having a lean body all you want and still be the same – no action, no results. Not to say that positive thinking is not good, but it must be coupled with the right amount of action. It’s better to do 30 minutes of walking than imagine yourself running a marathon. Related to the “think trap” is procrastination. This means tricking yourself into actually believing that tomorrow would be better than today to do something about your “over fat” problem. Or next week would be more convenient to start on a healthy eating program. The list of excuses is endless, but again, not a single calorie is expended. DIET FADSBurning fat is a long term process, not “Lose 21 pounds in 21 days”. While these programs might be effective for the serious diehard who has time to exercise at least an hour a day and ingests a lot of diuretics, it won’t work for long term fat loss – period. No single fad diet has ever been proven to work over a long period. In fact, most are designed for rapid WEIGHT loss, not fat loss. This means muscle mass, general health and wellbeing are all tossed out the window to lose weight. Most of the weight loss comes from water weight, not fat. BEING UNDER-EDUCATEDHaving the right information is really crucial. Without knowing how to burn fat, you may waste hours in unproductive activity or eat the wrong foods. It’s absolutely critical to know how to train, what to eat and how to count calories. That is unless you’d like to stay fat! Our site is full of great information and best of all – it’s FREE! UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONSWith the exception of a few percent of fat people, it takes years to get a bumper-belly. Years of overeating and lack of exercise. So plan on spending AT LEAST half the time you spent getting fat to get slim. Maybe that’s too much, but better to think in those terms and not be disappointed. With this in mind, it makes sense not to get fat in the first place, doesn’t it? Also, genetics plays a larger role than most people would like to admit. Movie-star looks and Arnold-like musculature are not just the result of hard work and eating right. Learn to love and accentuate what you have – not only will you be healthier mentally, but physically as well. If you keep your expectations in line with reality, you are less likely to give up before you achieve your slimness goals. NO GOALSWithout a destination, how can you hope to get anywhere? Without fat burning goals, you will continue to bounce up and down like a beach ball and not maintain a low body fat percentage. Set definite goals. Start with short term goals that are easier to reach and then add medium and long term goals. Write down your goals and put them in a place you can see them. Review your goals frequently and adjust them to the new and slimmer you. Fitness goals, for example, need to be constantly revised upwards since your body rapidly accustoms to exercise thereby burning fewer calories with each session. Stick to your goals as closely as possible, but don’t throw in the towel if you can’t meet them – just revise and persevere. FAILING TO PERSEVEREEating right and exercising regularly are not trivial tasks. They take time, energy and a real commitment that few other things in life demand. The rewards are worth the effort, but they only come to those who stick with it. Not just for a few months or years, but for life. As overeating and slothfulness became a habit, so too will exercise and proper diet. But you must stick with it to form the habit. A year at least and you will find it becoming a critical part of your day, not something you dread. It’s addictive! NOT BELIEVINGWhen you get started on your fat burner program, you are unlikely to see instant results and may start to doubt you can do it. You may think you are one of those unlucky few doomed to be fat the rest of your life. Well, if you think that way, be assured that all your nightmares will come true. Very, very few people have genetic dispositions to be fat – less than 1% of the population. And even they can control their weight with a proper diet and exercise program. Believe to achieve – you CAN do it, just don’t lose the faith. |
