Is It Possible?
Eat More To Weigh Less?!
Cliff Baker
No, you say, immediately. No one can eat more food to burn fat, build muscle and weigh less!
Think again before you toss this seemingly impossible accomplishment aside. Because this holiday season as the cheesecake, the fruitcake, the cookies and who knows what else stares you squarely in the face, you may be confronted with some tough choices to keep your weight loss journey headed in the proper direction.
Ah, but here are several secret strategies devised by some very wise nutritionists to help you between those holiday feasts. By following these suggestions, you can indeed "eat more, weigh less" and in the process help your body to some very healthy food!
If you follow these suggestions before you go to a party, you'll find that you're not quite as tempted by all the holiday foods. You'll be plenty satisfied. And should you decide to taste one of those treats, you can rest assured that's all you'll be doing -- taking a taste. You won't be sprinting down the cookie table at 90 miles an hour filling your plate with all the most decadent holiday treats.
Eating more of the Right Foods
Ah! That's the golden key to making this idea work. You need to eat more fruits and vegetables. That doesn't mean you need to sit in front of the television night after night munching on a bag of carrots or celery.
No doubt as the weather gets colder, you'll be eating more soups. Here's a wonderful venue for eating more. Toss in even more vegetables than you usually would into your vegetable or chicken soup. That's right! Are you having stew tonight? Add extra vegetables in that as well.
A great accompaniment to that soup is a nice salad. But instead of just putting in your usually lettuce, load your salad up with lots of extra veggies. Make that bowl of salad not only a feast for your eyes, red peppers, onions, green peppers, a little cauliflower . . . you get the idea. Make the salad a feast for your taste buds as well. In the process you'll discover that the veggies are filling you up quite nicely.
Spinach: Perhaps The Ultimate Health Food
You've seen the pre-bagged spinach in the grocery store. But did you ever stop to buy it? It may cost a little, but it's a great addition to your soups. You can also eat it wilted atop a plate of whole-grain pasta. Eat more, lose more!
Don't forget that fresh baby spinach makes a wonderful foundation for any salad! And it's loaded with an abundance of vitamins and minerals. Just listen to this. One cup of spinach gives you more than 1,000 percent (Yes! You read that right!) of vitamin K. Nearly 400 percent of your daily requirement of vitamin A as well as more than half of your daily needs of manganese and folate, a B-complex vitamin. Wow!
If you're using that spinach like lettuce, consider topping your sandwiches with it instead of lettuce. In addition to that put some sprouts on your sandwich. Layer it with some cucumbers and tomatoes as well. Now you've turned that plain sandwich into a feast. (By the way, this is a great strategy to use at a holiday party where sandwiches are served and a vegetable tray is there for the grabbing!
See, I told you it was possible to eat more -- and more importantly -- feel full! And your body will certainly thank you for the additional nutrition.
