Move Over Water! Heating Up The Benefits of Tea! Tea Topples Water As Beverage Royalty!Drink plenty of water! Make sure you rehydrate yourself. There's nothing that even comes close to rehydrating your system than water . . . Or is there? Is that Tea in your cup? Indeed. As improbable as it seems it appears that tea -- for several years the darling of the natural health set -- has just pulled off a major coup: Toppling water from the king of liquid health. You've heard the advice since you were a child: Drink plenty of water. At least five to eight glasses And then some. You can even drink 10 cups of water a day, depending on your weight. Some individuals have tried to hedge on this one, wondering whether tea counted. Without exception the Voice of Health cried, "No! Water and only water!" Well, now it appears that Voice of Health is adding a caveat. It has been quietly whispering, "Well, maybe you could substitute tea." What? I didn't hear that," you complain. So it raised its voice just a little more. "You heard me," it said. "Tea. It can give you the same health benefits as water in keeping you hydrated. And it can provide you with those much needed antioxidants. Hmm. Interesting. Could this even be so? This news comes to us from Rodale.com which reported on a recent review study which analyzed results from trials from 2004 to 2009. And if you're thinking you have to drink green tea -- well, you'd be absolutely wrong. For as much in vogue and favor green tea is, this review study revealed that black tea -- the tea you're most likely to encounter in restaurants and on grocery shelves. This review study concluded that in addition to the ability to rehydrate your body, black tea appeared to have "heart-protective qualities" even beyond those of its more famous and "exotic" green tea cousin. It confirmed what many had already thought. There existed a strong protective link between the consumption of tea and that of heart health. And it went one step further to say if you wanted the best possible protection, drink between one to eight cups of tea daily. And we're not talking widely large cups here either, folks. Just normal sized. This particular review also alluded to the fact that the tea may also produce protective benefits for other chronic, degenerative disease associated with the aging process Its protective qualities may even extent to such stubborn diseases as cancer. And there's hope that tea can be used to help improve brain function. Hmm. Interesting? Indeed. Who know the old-standby black tea is so beneficial? Scientists believe it's due to activity of flavonoids in the beverage. Whatever the reason, it appears that tea -- even the ordinary, run-of-the-mill black tea -- has just toppled water as THE health drink! I'll drink to that! |
