Aspartame: Three Ways It May Be Sabotaging
Your Good Weight-Loss Intentions

Cliff Baker

Are you one of millions of people who decided to kick start their diet by adopting as many "good habits" as possible in order to lose weight. Are you one of the millions who saw a good thing and jumped on the aspartame bandwagon already?

If you are, then you just may want to rethink your diet strategy, at least where the aspartame usage is concerned. Before I tell you about the dangers of this sweet ingredient, I want to ask you just a few quick questions. Have you found you're actually craving more sugar now than before you started your diet? Have you even gained a pound or two here and there in your attempt get healthy?

Don't blame yourself. It may very well be the aspartame that's interfering with your taste buds and your weight.

Aspartame Sabotage Trick #1: Teasing Your Taste Buds

Some health experts are convinced that aspartame actually stimulates your body into craving more carbohydrates. These experts aren't quite sure why this happens. But they think it might be linked to the fact that this sugar substitute is nearly 200 times sweeter than sugar.

This single fact, they say, actually "fools" your body into believing that sugar -- or high-glucose carbohydrates -- is imminent. Yes, your body actually then anticipates the entry of these foods and prepares for them. When they don't appear, your body is left wondering what in the world happened. In fact, it asks this loudly and clearly -- in the form of cravings.

Aspartame Sabotage Trick #\2: Stressing Your Digestive System

Aspartame is simply a substance that is difficult for your body to break down and digest. Because of this, its presence actually stresses your digestive system. And this, in turn, causes your body to store more of the food you eat as fat. Nobody said that the world was fair!

Health expert believe that this theory actually "proves itself" once people stop using aspartame. For the most part people who switch from aspartame average a 15-pound weight loss. Interesting, now isn't it?

Aspartame Sabotage Trick #3: Convincing Your Body To Eat More

The third way many people believe that aspartame may be sabotaging your weight loss efforts is simply by convincing you that you can eat more than what your body really needs. Think about that diet soda. Since it has aspartame, it has less calories than one sweetened with sugar. So instead of drinking one, you may drink two . . . or even three.

Since it's a "diet" product, your may believe that it's quite a bit lower in calories than the non-diet version. The bottom line, though, is that these drinks and other diet foods still do have calories . . . and sometimes nearly as many as the original versions.

Still enthusiastic about aspartame as a sugar substitute? Hopefully, you're re-thinking your eating strategy right about now. Not only that, but I haven't even touched upon the possible toxic problems involved in this sugar substitute. I think I'll save all of that for another article. You have enough to think about right now!
